The last one at the party
I have recently been reading every morning. Being on Easter break has allowed me to enjoy slower starts to the morning, allowing me to enjoy a peaceful and quiet read (husband snoring permitting!) and the first book I completed last week was Last one at the party by Bethany Clift. I am a sucker for disaster movies and post apocalyptic tales, and this book sparked my interest being set in the UK after a virus has wiped the population, leaving just one.
I just loved the way it was written, and the main character being a writer herself, I found myself becoming highly invested in her story and literally couldn't put it down!! But most of all, this book led me to wonder what I would do in her situation. I am a social person, I don't mind being alone for a little while, but I don't think that I could cope being entirely left to my own devices! I love the idea of ransacking Harrods and just walking into shops and picking up clothes at my leisure! I also thought the idea of staying in expensive hotels was fab too.....using all the facilities without a cost or care in the world!
But my reality would be very different...... I don't drive which would have a huge impact on how I would cope. There are no massive supermarkets directly near me, but I would be able to get to one walking! It probably wouldn't matter too much about not driving....I would more than likely be able to get a car to move and it wouldn't matter too much if I crashed a car!! Being near the south coast, I could go to deserted beaches and visit the Mary Rose for free! I could walk the steps up the Spinnaker tower to have a birds eye view to search for signs of life......and help myself to as many books as my heart desired!
The book did leave me with many questions.......what happened to her in the end? Why was she spared when the rest of society were wiped out? Did she ever find other signs of life (that were friendly)
And will there be a film made of this because I for one, will be watching it!!
