Things I learned from reading!

I have recently started reading "Things I learned from falling" by Claire Nelson. It's a true story of resilience and bravery and how a woman from London survived after days laying in the desert with a shattered pelvis.

Whilst obviously, her tale of survival and going through such pain is such focus of inspiration, I have been inspired most by her reasons for being there in the first place. She left the hum-drum of London seeking a slower pace and discover herself. I have imagined that feeling of being stifled and seeking solace in nature. Claire did just this, and found herself hiking through the desert, with a clear destination and goal in mind.

I love how she describes nature as her religion. I get how she feels about being outside and close to the earth. I too feel at my best when I am walking in nature, be it the beach, the woods or surrounded by mountains. The way the sunset makes beautiful colours across the sky, how the frost turns everything a glittering tint of white.....It really is a writers inspiration!

I often feel like escaping and letting go of everything holding me back. I do think of what I am missing out on by not exploring the world more, but I am such a cautious person!! I do connect with Claire's sense of needing escape, I am sure we all feel like this at some time or another for whatever reason.

One thing I cannot connect with however, is Claire's comfort in being alone. I am not a loner....I thrive for connection with others and although I do appreciate peace and quiet being by myself from time to time, I need to feel that there is someone nearby!

I am still early on in the book, but I am intrigued to learn more about this amazing woman and her story of resilience. I am sure I will not be disappointed!
