Into the wardrobe

I am a huge fan of themed Christmas decorations being themed.....especially when it is book related!

Today, I stepped into Narnia at one of my local garden centres. Every year, I get excited about the themed way they present their Christmas decorations for sale and this year I am overjoyed that they have taken the magic of C.S Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia to showcase their merchandise.

Although inadvertently walking around it backwards (we exited through the wardrobe!!) my friends and I loved the different sections depicting characters or moments from the famous Lion the Witch and the wardrobe. We were greeted with a whole section dedicated to Aslan, with a beautiful carved wooden seat depicting the majestic lion and providing one of many photo opportunities!

We saw the lovely Mr Tumnus greeting us in a woodland themed section, with the ornate decorations of woodland animals ready to go on the Christmas tree. I decided that I would love a Narnia style lamp outside my house, just like the one under which Lucy met the friendly fawn. Alas, I do not think such a decoration would last very long outside my house!! (especially with the strong winds of late!)

After a perch on the silver chair (reluctantly lifting the silver sword egged on by my friend!) we were whisked into a land of snow, where the Snow Queen awaited us with her sleigh.....I am not a fan of Turkish delight so I think I was safe and not as easily led as dear Edmund!

I loved how each section had character descriptions and little signs explaining parts of the story which you could stop and read along the way. It brought back so many memories of reading the books (I had the whole series as a child!), watching the famous series in the 80's and the more recent films (which are now getting older too!) I hope that the wonderful displays which must have taken so much creativity and effort to produce, encourage people to read the stories to their children, or buy them for Christmas for them to read!
