Launching Mrs Maskell's Mindfulness Moments!
This week has been quite an interesting one!
On Thursday, I launched my Youtube channel Mrs Maskell's Mindful Moments. It was extremely nerve wracking, and a huge learning curve! I am not one who likes to see themselves on camera, and it felt totally unnatural reading to a camera rather than a group of children. There were many takes, but in the end I managed to produce something I can be quite proud of!
So, why did I decide to go down this route? Well, a few week ago I was chatting to someone at a Mind, Body, spirit Fayre who suggested I give videoing myself a go, combining my passions of storytelling and mindfulness into one. We discussed how I had grown tired of trying to get stories published and illustrated and that maybe there could be other ways to get my stories out there to help children.
I was very excited about the prospect at first, talking to some of my closest friends and work colleagues about the whole idea. The reception was positive, encouraging me to just go for it and that I would be fine! It took me a few weeks to settle into the idea and find a time quiet enough to go for it.
With Half term offering the ideal opportunity to bite the bullet, I went for it! It is not the best, I fully admit that, but for a first try I am quite happy with the results. I have listened to feedback and have got myself a lovely microphone to use moving forward and will be looking at filming in landscape too.
I chose to use one of my own stories The Lost Bear, which had some underlying themes which were linked beautifully to mindfulness and wellbeing. I am hoping to now collaborate with other authors, reading their stories and sharing them in my own unique way. I also hope to tell some of my own new untold stories, involving the lovely mascot you see at the top of this page! His name is Mindful Mack and he is going to be my glamourous assistant in helping children to discover ways to practise mindfulness and share some amazing adventures going forward!!
